미드 속 표현 - <sex and the city>_10화(3) "헨젤과 그레텔 속 마녀는 제대로 이해받지 못했어."

 

표현 1) 엄마가 된 이후, 그들의 삶은 어떻게 바뀌었을까?

 

- Mother 1(Narration) : When I was senior vice president, 212 people reported to me on a daily basis.

내가 부사장이었을 땐 (<- 상무인데 부사장으로 잘못 번역되어있는 것 같다.)

매일 212명이 보고서를 올렸어요 

**senior vice president : (회사의) 상무; [드물게] 전무(SVP) 예문) When I left after 31 years, I was senior vice president and general manager of I.B.M.’s U.S. business. 31년을 일한 후 퇴직할 때 저는 상임 부사장 겸 I.B.M. 미주 총괄 매니저 자리에 있었습니다. **on a daily basis : 매일 예문) I have to exercise on a daily basis to keep myself limber. 나는 유연함을 유지하게 위해 매일 운동해야 한다.

 

- Mother 1(Narration) : Now I just yell at the gardener...

지금은 정원사에게나 소리치죠

who doesn’t understand a single word.

한마디도 이해하진 못하지만요

**yell at : ~에게 고함치다 예문) Back off! There’s no need to yell at me. 그만둬! 나한테 고함지를필요 없잖아. 예문) Don't yell at me. It's ear-splitting. 소리 지르지 마! 귀청 터지겠어.

 

 

- Mother 2(Narration) : I’m exactly the same.

I love my life.

난 똑같아요, 내 삶을 사랑하죠

 

But every now and then, I can’t help but think about..

하지만 가끔 생각이 나요, 리사...

**(every) now and then : 때때로, 가끔 예문) Every now and then he regretted his decision. 그는 때때로 자신의 결정을 후회했다.   예문) Bob doesn't say much, but every now and then he hits the nail right on the head. 밥은 말 수가 적지만, 이따금 핵심을 찌르는 말을 해 준다.   예문) Every now and then even the gentlest couple has a quarrel. 정말 점잖은 부부라도 가끔씩 싸우기는 한다.

 

 

 

표현 2) 수많은 엄마들을 보며 머릿속이 복잡한 캐리. 미란다에게 이런저런 생각을 털어놓는데...

 

- Carrie : There’s a woman in there breast-feeding a child who can chew steak..

스테이크도 씹을 만한 아이에게

젖을 먹이는 엄마가 있더라

**breastfeed : 모유를 먹이다/수유하다  -> breast-feed a baby/child 예문) They hope this campaign will let the world know that mothers have a right to breast feed their children whenever and wherever they want. 그들은 이 캠페인이 엄마들은 언제 어디서나 아기들에게 젖을 먹일 권리가 있다는 것을 세상에 알리는 기회가 되기를 바란다는군요.

 

- Miranda : You know how I feel about that?

표현 3) 미란다 왈, "동화 헨젤과 그레텔 속 마녀는 사람들에게 제대로 된 이해를 받지 못하고 있는 거야." 

 

- Miranda : I just realized... maybe it’s maturity or the wisdom that comes with age...

내가 나이가 들어 성숙하고 지혜로워졌는지 몰라도

 

but the witch in Hansel and Gretel, she’s very misunderstood.

헨젤과 그레텔에 나오는 마녀는

실수를 했던 거야 (<- 여기도 "오해를 받았다 / 제대로 이해받지 못했다"는 의미인데 오역이 생긴 것 같다.)

**come with : 따라오다 / ~이 딸려 있다 예문) All main courses come with salad or vegetables. 모든 메인 코스에는 샐러드나 야채가 따라 나온다. **misunderstood : 제대로 이해[인정] 받지 못하는, 오해를 받는 예시) a much misunderstood illness 많은 오해를 받고 있는 질병 예문) She felt very alone and misunderstood. 그녀는 몹시 외롭고 제대로 인정을 못 받는다는 기분이 들었다.

 

- Miranda : I mean, the woman builds her dream house...

여자가 꿈의 집을 지어놓으면

and these brats come along and start eating it.

애새끼들이 몰려와서 갉아먹지

**come along : 1. 도착하다; 생기다[나타나다] 예문) When the right opportunity comes along, she’ll take it. 알맞은 기회만 생기면 그녀는 그것을 잡을 것이다. 2. 함께 가다[오다] 예문) I’m glad you came along. 네가 함께 와서 기뻐. 3. (원하는 대로) 되어 가다[나아지다] =progress 예문) Your French has come along a lot recently. 너의 프랑스어 실력이 최근에 많이 좋아졌어.
