표현 1) 동감이야! 매번 사용하는 agree with 말고, 어떻게 쓸까?

: …와 견해가 일치하다 (=agree with)

 

예문) I don’t see eye to eye with him and he’s hard to work with. 

그 사람하고는 의견이 일치하지 않아 같이 일하기 어렵다.

 

예문) I see eye to eye with you on that. ( =I have no problem with that. )

표현 2) 복잡하고 큰 대도시, 이렇게 표현해볼까?

: 제멋대로 뻗어 [퍼져] 나가는

 

cf) sprawling cities =  metropolis (주요 도시(흔히 한 국가나 행정지역의 수도) =  in any large metropolitan area

 

 예문) Many people have to live in big cities since almost every job is in sprawling cities like Seoul.

대부분의 직업이 서울같은 대도시에 모여있어서, 많은 사람들이 그곳에서 살아야만 한다. 

 

 

 

표현 3) mod cons라고 들어봤니?

 

mod cons = modern conveniences 

: 英, 비격식 (집안의) 편의 시설[최신 설비]

 

예문)  There are so many public facilities or mod cons in Seoul.

서울에는 공공시설 및 최신 편의 시설이 참 많다.

 

예문) Now I can afford to rent a spacious house with all mod cons. 

이제 나는 각종 가구와 기기가 완비된 넓은 집을 빌릴 만한 금전적 여유가 있다.

 

 

 

표현 4) study vs train 외국인들에겐 약간 다른 뉘앙스, 어떤 차이가 있을까? 

 

study

: 공부하다, 배우다

-> 보통 초,중급 단계의 상황을 가리킬 때 <study sth> 표현을 씀

 

train

: (재능 등을) 연마[훈련]하다

-> <train sth> 이미 어느정도 할 줄 알지만, 그럼에도 훈련(공부)을 하고 있을 때 사용하는 표현

 

예문) I have been training for English.

(이미 어느정도 영어를 잘하는 상태이지만) 영어 훈련(공부)을 하고 있다. 

 

예문)  I can just speak my native tongue, which is Korean. Also, I can speak English and French, as I have studied these two languages.

나는 모국어인 한국어를 할 수 있고, 이전에 배웠기 때문에 영어와 프랑스어도 할 수 있다. 

 

 

 

표현 5) '~에 관해서' 원어민들이 진짜 자주쓰는 표현은 이것!

예문)  I can only speak French and English. Hopefully, I would probably learn Japanese and Chinese because they are neighboring nations that I have not learned deeply (known-in-depth) about their culture and traditions.
